Adding an OBDII Port to '95 850?

Post by hausmeister »

Hi guys, maybe you can help me out:

I have a '95 850 without OBD2 port. I need an OBD2 port to troubleshoot codes on the upgraded Motronic 4.4 ECU.
I was told (and research led me to believe it is correct) to add an obd port (for only the ecu) I just need 12v+, gnd and B36 Wire from the ECU to make it work.

from http://m44.wikia.com/
I was thinking of getting an obd port from a later model 850, but I don't think mine has the wiring to plug it in.
Here is a picture from what is below my center console; Except for the yellow connector there is nothing obvious.

Alternatively, I would splice into the wires somewhere and add the obd connector.
Which leaves the question: where do I get to the B36 (k-line?) Wire... Does anyone know how to identify it and where I might find it? I have looked at some wiring diagrams but I'm not that good at reading them, I could ony see it going to the obd plug which I don't have, and the diag. port to A6 which is not populated on mine.
I know I can grab it directly at the ECU or wiring loom... but I don't want to disturb that if possible.

Any help is appreciated.

Get it from the ECU and be done with. Your car is unique, no one else can probably help you since their B36 wire go to the OBDII plug or A6 port or both.

Nope....diagnostic "k-line" for motronic 4.4 for european market goes through immobiliser.
Motronic 4.4 ecu needs a green light from immobiliser in order to talk with diagnostics.

You will need whole wiring loom from mot 4.4 car along with chipped key and immo2 ecu.

Since you obviously can start and drive a car without chipped key and immo 2 ecu...your ecu is allready re-programmed.

For European market sure.

For US market, there are M4.4 ECU cars that came without the immobilizer. The self tune M4.4 ecu calibration is build using those ECU bin files.

Self tune m4.4 ECU work just fine on a 850, after tuning for a/c and injectors size. I know, I had a M4.4 in my 850.

Hausmeister is from Austria,EU.
Unless he have mot 4.4 for U.S market...diagnostics are not possible without immo 2 ecu.

Hausmeister has a 850 with M4.3 ECU. He wants to use a M4.4 ECU and add an OBDII port.

Correct, I have an EU car, originally with M4.3, but I am using a reprogrammed (bought) 4.4 ecu. Everything works fine; I just want to read the codes. Immobilizer etc doesn't matter since the car originally came with 4.3

So best option ist to take apart the ecu "dock", maybe add the wire to A6 and also use this for obd2 port?

See?

@Hausmeister....
You're right....but mot4.4 diagnostic won't talk without immo2 ecu.
It can start the car and run it....that is not a problem but diagnostic could be.

Yes well...

I was hoping there is an easier way than messing with the ecu dock... but seems not.

@Misha:
It should work, according to the shop where I bought the ecu. Anyways, My question is about the wire. So just forget about this for now.
