Volvo Repair Database Volvo S80 T6 "R Kelly" intake install

Post by BobbyMang »

Hey all! I just finished with the install of the R style intake in my 00' S80 T6. I've seen lots of people who are skeptical and there's only one other forum tutorial that I'm aware of on the net. I decided to just take a few pictures for anyone who would like to do this easy upgrade.

This upgrade seems to be adding a good amount of throttle response and quicker spool time. I suggest it to anyone looking to improve the upgrade deprived S80 for not too much cash.

First I took the airbox out by pulling hard on the areas around where the lock pins are.

After this I took a 2" hole saw and cut a hole in the front right section of the airbox. Note that this is really the only logical place to have the inlet. also note that the hole must be low enough not to interfere with the filter but high enough not to hit the little protrusions on the inside. (see pictures)

While the silicone adhesive was drying, I decided to get my ducting squared away. I routed the tubing down through the bay and out of an opening near the fog light.

To better fit the mounting position, I had to cut away a small piece of plastic.

Now for the attachment of the flange... easily the most difficult part as the tubing is literally the same size as the insert on the flange piece. This leads you to the classic frustration of getting one side secure and at the same moment the other side pops out  Through much pain however, it finally slid into place and I clamped it.

The mounting place for the flange is really up to you but I chose the easy route and mounted it behind the fog light but angled in such a way that airflow would go right to it. I plan on moving it to in front of the radiator on the bottom but that would include more cutting and it's starting to rain here at the moment  I will update when I get around to that because I believe that would be a much more suitable mounting place.

The only thing left now is to put the airbox assembly back together and connect the other end! Place the airbox back onto the pins and snap it into place, screw the MAF sensor in with a torx bit and connect the plug, replace the air filter, and clip the top of the airbox back on.

Complete!

The result of this added air source is a good boost in throttle response and the turbo breathes a little bit easier. I'm definitely satisfied with this upgrade and I thank IPD for supplying us Volvo enthusiasts with such great products! I hope this helped at least one of you get one step closer to unlocking the potential of your S80!
