Have an 02 V70 XC with almost 88K miles that's a daily. If my memory serves me right abscate took a ride in it when we went to lunch last year during his business trip to the greater RTP area. If interested PM.

Come to think of it the only nice thing you said was the seat were comfortable. He's got seats already.

Sudden high pressure event - pretty sure the head blew and dumped combustion gases into the coolant, and the high pressure is what caused the radiator hose to pop and dump coolant. Yes, I could pull the head and put a new gasket in, but the damage probably goes beyond that. At this point, as much as it pains me to say it, I think it’s too much to try and get it running again.

I doubt it’s more than that. The bottom end of these engines are indestructible. Go to a local LKQ and see what a long block will cost. ( don’t do this online, go in person. LKQ charges a fortune to list inventory so many ( most€?) don’t play their game. )

Ok abscate, tell me more. I’ve got a LKQ across town.

Digging this much into an engine is new territory for me. Conceptually, I understand, but in practical terms, I’ve never ventured this far. I doubt my SWMBO will go for this car sitting in our driveway, because I honestly won’t be able to touch it for months….but I’m game.

What am I getting into if I go down this path? In one of your previous responses you said, “ That’s 4 hours to get the head off, rework at shop for $500 or less, 4 hours back on.” What kind of “rework at shop” are you talking about?

Goodnight Elizabeth,

Morning Jon boy

see hunts machine shop price list. You pay a bit more for the 4 valve per cylinder Volvo but I’ve done three heads with him well under $400 each time. If he doesn’t like a valve he will tell you and you get a replacement

A gasket kit and a set of valve stem desks are about $150 in parts

Have a look at your exhaust nuts on your down pipe, that’s the worst part of this job

If you are near bdub in Charlotte, maybe you can connect and get the MVS rate - talk Miata’s too!

Night Jonboy!

if the timing belt didn't get damaged the valve train should be ok.

One of the ways to get SWMBO on Board is say “ well, I’m not this guy….”

At 360k miles , you definitely want new valve stem seals to protect this valves from oil deposits, carbon, then burnt valve

HA!

1. Do I see 7 Volvos in that picture?
2. Is that a water heater in the midst of all that?
3. Do your neighbors hate you? 😂
