2007 XC70 HID to halogen conversion

Post by Xc70MPoD »

Hello! 2007 XC70 with bi-xenon. Right passenger side headlight has dislodged unit inside housing. Also, the socket is damaged and the bulb can’t sit right. Beam pattern hideously bad.

I bought a salvage unit. The lense was flapping in the housing and the arm that connects to the plastic stud was broken. I’m hesitant to buy other salvage units for hundreds of dollars to have the same problem. :(

I can’t pass inspection as is. I have done lots of research and have come up with the following that I want to verify is true before I buy the housings: after I remove the HID harness the halogen lenses should plug in to remaining harness. I will have a bulb out warning but the lights will work.

If I want to remove the bulb warning can I do that with genuine vida/mongoose, or do I need a good DICE clone? Is this something only the dealer can change with my car configuration (selecting halogen.) Or I should be able to? Please, let me know what you think.

Just for an updates sake. I got two local salvage halogen assemblies and restored them. They were brutal on the inner clips unfortunately, but they stay in place with the other clips :) They plugged in perfectly and function perfectly. Each time I start my car I get a headlamp failure message that can be silenced by pressing the stock. The ABL button blinks - easily fixed with a tinsy bit of tape to cover the light. Otherwise, I can see much much better now. My plan is to wait patiently for a local/semi local ABL xenon headlight to show up in a local yard and then reinstall them together, but in the interim I'll keep these assemblies.
