Tire Chains for Snow -- Too cramped Wheel Wells?
Snow Cables--Too cramped Wheel Wells?
2006 S60 2.5T FWD--After all the messages about ill-fitting tires and rubbing when wheels turned lock to lock, who can advise me about size of snow chains/cables before heavy snows in the nearby passes? Any tips on sizing, smaller tires to accommodate chains?

We can sell you the Volvo chains that will fit your car no problem. Provide tire size and we can give you a quote on what they cost. You won't have to worry about them causing any damage.
I would recommend studded tires. If that doesn't cut it maybe a XC 70 or 90 with some clearance would be best for you. The s60's don't have enough clearence to go thru alot of snow and when the body is hung up your are ust going to be spinning those chains and standing still.
Not trying to be pesamistic but although chains will aid in traction, I don't thuink they will help in deep snow.
I want an s60 myself so i'm not knocking the car.
Good luck

Just curious, is there a max speed when using cables/chains?
For me, I need them in my local area (lots of hills), but when I get to the major roads, they are usually cleared by the town/state.
I would hate to have to continually put them on and off.
Thanks

Have you considered spiders? Very low clearance so they fit most applications, and very easy on and off. An adaptor stays on the wheel so perhaps not the most aesthetic, but functional excellence.

I drive to Mammoth here in Los Angeles a few times a year and always bring chain because California is anal about chains with even the lites amount of snow. I try to avoid taking the Volvo only because there is so little room between the wheel well and tire that even running my hands between the fender and wheel is tough.
I have taken the Volvo and have installed cables without issue many time. I just use the SCC snow cables for $23 at Amazon or $50 something every where else and they work fine if installed right, but that goes for any chain. If you are willing to pay the chain guys $20 who cares how difficult it is. I'm not, so I generally don't take the Volvo.
You are right about the wheel stops, most cables wrap the inside and outside of the tire and when turning very sharply the cables will rub against the stops, but this is only an issue in parking lot and such when you turn the wheel all the way.
