Did you gap them yourself? or use them straight out of the box?

Straight out of the box just like the last set . Same brand and type of plug . I can check the gaps but it doesnt explain why the idle/rev problems swap over when you disconnect the MAF . I'll drop the old plugs back in and see if the problem goes .

Just had another pair of eyes on it and he says its got to be in the management system somewhere . Without the maf we get stalling but engine revs smoothly up and down . With maf we get a perfect idle but engine wont rev up and down unless it has gas applied slowly .

Other than the maf are there any other sensors that could cause this ?

The relearn cycle is a couple of 20min constant speed runs at 45-50mph with a stop, shut-off and start in between.

Check where the fuel line exits the plastic protective cover. There may be a pinched area.

I had to make a quick pick-up from the gravel edge of the highway a few weeks ago and soon after a distinct smell of petrol was evident. Turns out, the fuel line had a crack installed by the roostertail of gravel.

My primary suspect is unbranded Maf.It couldn't be oem if it's unbranded.Bosch Maf sensor 0 280 217 107 is OEM. :!:

Theres a problem with it relearning then as its undrivable . With the maf connected if you try to drive it as soon as you give it the hint of some pedal it starts to buck and lose power . I reckon I would need somewhere in the region of 5 miles of road to get to 45mph the way it accelerates at the moment

Try a corbon clean.

Take a quart mason jar filled to just below the rim. A piece of tubing(1/8) is connected to one of the the ports on the vacuum stack under the throttle cover. Start engine. Don't dip the hose too far into the water. Let it take the surface. Too much will stall the engine. If engine stalls...start immediately...rev...there will be some smoke and brimstone. Continue until entire contents are ingested.

The critical point is to not let the engine ingest too much water. The hose must be above the waterline by about 1/8 to 1/4 inch. You'll know.
Don't take a nap.

I am not sure if the the fuel pump will lose it over time. Usually...it just makes a bunch of noise and snap fuses before it gives it up.

Decided to fix it the easy way . Off to the scarp yard it goes . Problems somewhere in the engine management and I just dont have the time or the money to keep chasing sensors .
