s80 t6 1999 - Transmission issue

My problem : While shifting from 2nd to 3rd my rpm goes higher than normal before it shifts and when it does it is hard( i don't feel it shift between other gears) unless I am speeding, then i don't feel the gear change. Also after driving a couple of miles at above 50mph, the vehicle is stuck in 3rd gear and won't reset unless i put the car in Park shut off the engine and start up again, then and only then it will go through all the gears but still shifts hard between 2nd and 3rd. After reading a few of the transmission issue related post I decided to change the tranny fluid and filter, it really needed it, and it ran smoother but still had the issue with 2nd and 3rd gears, but not as noticable. Now after driving the car at 80mph for about 9 miles the problem has returned. I'm thinking the tranny might need to be rebuilt but the issue of having to shut off the car to get it to take all gears is making me think it's an electrical/computerised problem. Can someone give me some advise other than driving the car into the ocean and using it as a manmade coral reef.
