That would be my guess; mine's an auto, but that's where it was on my Saab. I miss having a manual =(

Rich if your 850 is an automatic then you don't have a reverse light switch. It's the PNP switch which is a very common failure on these cars. Mine is on it's way out right now, lol. Eventually, it will get to the point where you won't be able to start the car in the cold. You can either replace the switch, remove it and clean it, or leave it alone for now. If one day you cant start your car due to the PNP switch, "row" your shifter back and forth from Park to 1st gear 20 r so times. Also, starting in Neutral can help.

My 850 is a manual. I'm told that it was the first year for awd and it only came in manual.
I'll have wait until the car gets back(wife has it at work)to look at the boot and see if the switch is under there.

I don't know if the AWD makes any difference but the reverse light switch on my manual transmission is on the top of the transmission itself.
