odometer/tripometer not working

My ABS light started coming on and staying on a week or so ago, and I have come to the conclusion that it is caused by the ABS module going bad. But now my odometer and tripometer are not working either, and I can't imagine that they are related issues. It has to just be coincidence on the timing...but any idea what could be wrong with the odometer? If it is the cable is that something that can be fixed reliably outside the dealership at less cost? Thanks!!

Does the speedometer work OK ? If so it is the gear

yes, the speedometer works fine. It is just the odometer and the tripometer that don't. Any idea how long of a job fixing it is if someone is fairly mechanically inclined? Could it be done on a Saturday? I can only imagine how much a dealer would charge to fix it!
