As in can you clean it out? I think it depends on how clogged it is, as I've *heard* of someone I know who is a Volvo lover that cleaned their system with some really high pressure air. Obviously they disconnected it from the car before doing it.
But honestly the kit to do it is only like $92, so you may as well replace everything.

It's a lot of work to change it. I poured a half can of SeaFoam into mine and it works fine now.

The oil trap, itself, is only about a $35 dealer part. The associated hoses, if not cracked and old, can be reused. The only other must-replace part when you do the oil trap is the intake gasket.

No, the power steering lines can apparently be bent out of the way but there is no way to remove the pan w/o doing something to the PS lines.

Easy deal, a new rear intake camshaft seal will fix it right up. It is an easy repair compared to most - yank the old one out and tap in a new one. The hardest part is taking the distributor off but even that is fairly easy.Any suggestions on the oil coming from behind my distributor?

Weird! I bought the Chilton's manual for my recently acquired '97 850 s/w and there is no mention of the oil trap at all in there. Does it have another name? I tried "oil separator" as well - no mention of that either.
I have seen the detailed procedure written in Oct 2005 by "White850Turbo" for replacing the oil trap, but that was for his turbo; mine is not turbo, but I assume everything else is pretty much the same. Is that right?
Thanks
