First of all, I have to say I am extremely impressed and grateful for the how-to posts, especially the ones with pictures - thank you!
Now, as to my question:
When looking to order a t-belt for the 2.4L I5 (B5254S), I see three different ways of determining the appropriate belt, using a 6 or 7-digit engine number (not the 2-digit engine code, which is 55 of course!)
Here it says "Eng: -1266127, w/ Automatic Tensioner & w/o Direct Ignition" which seems to mean after Engine Number 1266127:

But at the local parts stores, they specify a 6-DIGIT number; AutoZone and Advance say before/after 131034/131035 for a Dayco belt; whereas Barron's and Reilly's say before/after 131154/131155 for a Gates belt; this site shows both:

This is, I suppose, more a matter of curiosity than need, as my timing cover shows both 7-digit "Artikel Nr. (P) 1289959" and 6-digit "Serie Nr. (T) 196933" numbers, both of which seem to be after the 'split'; but I just want to be sure.
Is 'Artikel Nr.' the part number, and 'Serie Nr.' the serial number? That would make sense, but why does DriveWire use the 7-digit number? And how can there be two different 'splits' in production, using the 6-digit number?

The number in question is the engine serial number not the chassis number, it is normally on a sticker on the front of the timing belt cover.

I have found many of your posts to be helpful, but this one remains unclear to me.
I believe the "number in question" is the "engine number"; and indeed I too believe it is on the timing cover, as I stated - but I have two numbers there, one is a 6-digit number called "Serie Nr. (T)", the other is a 7-digit number called "Artikel Nr. (P)"; my question is WHICH ONE is the engine number?
(And now I'm more puzzled - is one of the numbers I mentioned, in my post, a chassis number?)
In any event, I still don't understand how 5 belt manufacturers can use 3 different numbers (one of which is 7-digits, the other two, 6-digits) to identify which part is used in that particular engine.
(In doing some reading here, I saw an oblique reference to "the infamous engine number" issue, but I tried to use search on this forum, and it says "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes.".)
The mystery deepens...

I'm sorry, I didn't read your post well enough. Your car uses the later model belt. The number in question is indeed the Serie Nr.
