How much would it cost to have a mechanic repair this? I suspect that is why my 850 GLT doesn't give me any defrost, AC or heat anymore. It starts for a split second when I start the car, then dies and I can't use any knobs to control it. I have little to no technical ability, so I am wondering if this is something a repair place would do at a reasonable price?
Thanks

I have a 1998 V70XC I am trying to get ready for a trip up north for Christmas. I just replaced my blower unit (using the excellent instructions in this post, and this video: http://www.howcast.com/videos/51461-All ... 0-C70-XC70). I also removed and cleaned the temperature sensor. My AC and Heat worked fine for most of the day, but tonight the old problems came back. When I start the car two yellow lights on the electronic climate control blink for about 20 seconds, and I get no air from the blower. I suspect 9 months of using a bad blower messed up the power resistors, but I don't know how to diagnose. Can anyone give me trouble shooting advice? I don't want to purchase a new one at $100+, and find out that wasn't the problem.
I have one other question, I removed the radio easily using the instructions here: http://www.howcast.com/videos/51463-All ... 0-C70-9800 but can't seem to remove the electronic climate control module. The video makes it look easy, and I can't budge it, trust me I'm a big guy and should be able to remove it. I don't want to break it, but am not sure if something changed in the design. Anyone else have this problem?

If memory serves me correctly, at the rear of the ECC unit, on the top face in the center, there is a pin/plate that needs to be depressed before you can remove the ECC unit.
Access is gained once the radio is removed, small hands and fingers may be of some help. It does require a little bit of encouragement.

Hi all, thanks for the many, many suggestions here. I'm sure its the blower motor operating incorrectly; as if I select min. temp. I get a blower at low speed, and even if it takes a while to cool a 40 deg. C. car here in Perth, after 5-10 mins the system is cooling. Thanks again all.
Well, I have replaced the blower with a new one (the A/C and heat worked for about a 1/2 of a day, and my problem of two blinking yellow lights on the automatic climate control with no blowing air on any setting returned). Today I replaced the resistor pack with a used one from the salvage yard, and the problem remains. I am not getting any voltage at all on the wires going into the blower (I got about 8 volts before I started the project). I also am getting no voltage on the two heavy gauge wires that head into the resistor pack. I checked the 60 Amp fuse and it still looks good. I also pulled the automatic climate control (it was REALLY stuck in there, but after a lot of pulling it came out) and took it apart and found no burned looking circuitry or bad burned smell. I still suspect the automatic climate control because I believe its the only part left. There is one other important piece of information... about three years ago my top middle two vents started blowing cold air only, even when the heat was on, but it never effected the velocity of the air. What do you guys think? Should I just replace it (the automatic climate control) with a used on from the salvage yard? Any trouble shooting suggestions would be appreciated.

The ECC controller head usually has tell tale signs when it has failed. Pop it out of the dash, remove the cover, and look for a big burned looking smudge on the inside of the case. Further inspection of the circuit board will usually reveal a giant burned spot on the circuit board.
If those conditions exist, by all means replace the controller. If they don't exist I would keep looking elsewhere for solutions before I spent the coin on a new control head but as the temperature falls I can appreciate your desire to get to the bottom of the problem.

Thanks for the advice Lee, I rechecked my fuses and the 25amp climate control fuse (#31) had blown. I replaced it and everything worked again. I was happy until the next time I got in the car, the fuse blew again. Still troubleshooting, will post back the problem/solution once I get to the bottom of it.

Did you guys use a shortened t25 driver to remove the lower of the 2 screws on the right side of the blower? No matter which way I move I can't fit the screwdriver in to remove that last screw.
