THINK OF THIS AS AN ENTIRE *in the works* INTERIOR REMODELING WRITE UP. FOR AN 854
This write up will include.
SEATS
Pass -
Rear -
-----------
Headliner -
Dash Trim -
others... hehe youll have to wait and see.

So within the next week my interior will look nothing like it did yesterday before I did the seat swap for an older yet WAY nicer looking pass side black seat. *btw its heated... hehehehee*
In the future...
today I am replacing the back seat with a black leather as well to match the pass seat.
Me and a friend might be going half and half on headliner materials to replace our headliners *hes got a 855 i believe* , as well as i am changing the color of the dash trim... *not the pieces just the color, replacing is WAY to big of a job for me to do*
Then I will be on the hunt for a black either pass side seat to get it skinned to my drivers, or an electric drivers in black.

After I get my seats in I plan on doing the trim on my dash.. but not the major PITA trim job like some do which requires ripping it out CAREFULLY! and removing the glue, screws, clips, rivits, and so much more that holds it in... but the peel and stick brushed scratch resist coated steal. which im grabbing from upstairs before i leave work.

And possibly even carbon fiber coating my centerconsole, unless i find it in black before I get to that stage.

So first id like to help anyone out with their pass seat removal... same goes for the drivers id imagine, just more things to un clip with the wiring.

Here is a write up to help you keep it a breeze and not a pain in the arse *pita* like it was for me before i took a breath and cooled down.
Difficulty : Novice *I say this since I have never removed seats* and it was quite easy.
Time : 1 hour (prep + remove + Install)

First the tools you will need are listed here
Tools Used.jpg

Wrench - I prefer craftsmen just in case it brakes i can take it back and get a new one free.
sockets - 12mm and a 15mm will work GREAT!
wd40 always helps! *or any type of lubricant*
Flat head screwdriver for the first clip others just come right off
TWO extensions although one will work.
Extras-
Leather cleaner if you wish to clean, and water if your using lexol to activate the cleaning additive.
Shop towel for cleaning leather and whipping down anything that needs it while your seat is out.
Vacuum with a hose! *now is the time to get those hard to reach areas!*

before you install or remove other seat you should prep your new one.
first spray a few sprays of what ever your using on the leather. this is for lexol so check to see how yours is used.
spray a 2-3 on area, wet a clothe and rub into surface, this activates foam. then wipe off with towel.
I personally used the cleaner and conditioner.

Once you get that done its time to take out that seat!!!
Firstly your going to want to pop off the plastic pieces, the one in the front next to the door is a major PITA and BECAREFUL! because if you do it wrong you will brake it.

First
Your going to want to remove the side peice. Simply pull up in the front and slide it back. thats all there is to it. then lift it up and out.
removing side.JPG

Next
Move the seat all the way back
Take that flat head and put it between the silver clip and the seat frame *brown in my case* pry it up just enough to where it lets go and you can slide the plastic piece off. I started off by prying on it and ended up cracking mine... this is when i took a breath and analyzed it.
Note the photo- the green arrow is the direction to come with the flat head, and the red box is where the clip is located. Also squeeze a little where the blue is to decompress the sides. this will allow the piece to slide right out.
PITA CLIP!.jpg

in this photo you can see what the clip was on.. i couldnt get it to clip back on when i reinstalled by the back part keeps it snug.
*sorry for the blurry photo, cell photo quality*

Once that is done slide your seat all the way to the front, the 2 backs are just a matter of wiggling them and prying a bit to get them out, I will take some photos of this step tonight to post.

Once you have gotten those out, you will have relieved the 15mm bolts that hold your seat down.
Now that they are exposed take this time to hit them with the WD40 and go over the seat to see if there is any extra cleaning to be done

now after 5 minutes or so its time to get cracking!

I started with the front just simply because I sprayed the back first and the fronts were exposed from me sliding the seat back.

Take your wrench with the *1* extension for now* and your 15mm, give a good torque left to loosen them Once youve done that just take the bolts out from the front, Slide the seat up all the way and move to the back. *I like this part because you get to sit on a nice cushion seat while you work!*
Depending on which one you start on.. for the sake of this we will start with easiest first, so the right bolt.
take again with your wrench and take out the bolt turning your wrench towards the back of the pass seat.

Now this step can be done with one or two extensions. if your not in a hurry you can use one, but if its 30 degrees or less out you are probably in a hurry... *although I found my light kept me warm*
Attach both the extensions and your 15mm socket. begin loosening, right here you will realize why two is better then one, gives you more room to turn the wrench. *if you have 3... i say go for it*
once you have all your bolts out you will notice the seat belt is still bolted onto the seat... that's fine I found it WAY easier to remove it once it is out of the car then while the seat is in.

Now that the seat is loose slide it all the way to the back to check for any wiring you need to disconnect. Mine was only held on by a clip so no big deal on getting that off.

Take the seat out of the car, I found it easier to lay it all the way back and rotate then remove. *careful of rest of the interior*

Once you get the seat out it is a matter of one bolt holding the seat belt on. that would be where the 12 mm comes in handy. No need to hold the back nut as it is welded on.

Once you have everything out just follow backwards.
I would advise you remember to reinstall the seat belt before you put your new seat in as there is little to no room to maneuver a wrench once its in. *like i found out*
Also, be careful of tightening it to much, I bent the holder because I wasn't careful.

I took this time to clean the area under and around where the seat was.

Thats where the vacuum comes in handy, and the rag. I had to clean the side of my console thanks to an ex who liked to spill soda...

Here are some before and after shots of the pass seat.

Much better condition! and also it is black not charcoal. Im going to be selling the pass seat, and the whole back seat... the back seat is in near perfect condition as you will see from when i write up about that.

Nice write up. I like your use of colors. It helps with following the directions.

Thanks, Do you know if this works for the driver side aswell? obviously if its electric your going to need to keep power to it. but aside from that, removing it should be quite the same, no?

And that's only the beginning, I still have
rear seat,
dash trim
headliner
possibly carbon fibering my center-console.
Haha in that order too.
I think the front seats are the hardest part of the remodeling. everything else just snaps in place.

Your write up will complement Lee's very well. The foam on my driver seat is collapsing and I want to switch it with the passenger side (barely used) but I am wondering if it is possible to switch just the seat portion without pulling out the foam. My seats are non motorized and I have no heaters.
Do you think it would be possible to detached just the seat portion and do the switch.
Anybody has exploded view of the car seat ?

When I was taking off my old pass seat I noticed that it seemed I could just take the seat off by itself without having to un bolt it... I will look further into this when I get home.
but if what im reading is right.. one or two things is going to have to happen... its going to be a yes and you can just do that.
or its going to be a no and your going to have to either get them skin swapped... or find an electric one from the JY for about 30-40 bucks. the skinning would cost more no doubt.

Ill let you know tonight

But yeah eh I like the color, but I do want the blue. Well see, worst i can do is change them and hate them... and if thats the case ill just replace and let someone else use.

Im working on the write up for the back seats now. haha as if anyone should really need it. but why not. also gives a sneak peak of my next interior step... brushed alum vinyl dash...

OK this is for the rear seat... Really I dont see the point in writing a write up but here it goes.

First your going to want to get anything prepd before you take out you current seats.
this means cleaning replacement, or just getting stuff ready to clean your current.
maybe a vacuum to clean under seats.

Ok, Now to start off
This is going to take as long as you make it. it took me almost 2 hours. but i took my time and talked on the cell while doing this.
difficulty, beginner.

Start off by laying your seats down using the lever.
Seat latch..JPG
Seat latch..JPG (73.27 KiB) Viewed 3800 times
Once your seats are down you can remove the side pieces. they come off by simply pulling at the top *YELLOW* , and lifting straight up *BLUE*
102_0429.JPG
Now that that is done and the two side pieces are off.
You can go one or two ways, remove the bottom seat, or the back seats...
Well go with the bottom first.
Simply pull up on the front and pull out. there are two holders, one on each side. simply pulling up in those locations will release the seat.
*please ignor my horrid wiring of leds... taking those out later.
seat holders.JPG

Once that is done you should be down to just your seat backs.
make sure they are folded down all the way and select a side, I went with the drivers side first just because it was closest.
Pull towards you and lift up on the seat. This will compress the clip and allow you to slide it out. once you get it, repeat on the other side, you will notice the pass side has a prong if you will, that goes into the other seat on the side. so you will need to remove the drivers side before you remove the pass side to avoid to much difficulty.

Now that they are out do what ever you need to do!

Also can someone help me with this...
I need to replace the one on the black seats i just installed because it is broke.. and have no clue how to get it off... i took the plastic piece off and it seems to be more complex then originally thought.
