1989 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon

740 Turbo, 2.3L .. No Spark, and fuel pumps not running.. Replaced Relays, Fuel gauge quits working when this happens. Possible Ignition Module or Ignition control unit ??? Also.. I have voltage @ the coil and the Cap and coil are new.. Its an electrical Gremlin im sure.. Please Help. Thanx..

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

We tend to look for simple solutions before spending lots of money on modules.

Fuel gauge quits working when this happens.

Does the gauge quit when you turn the key to the start position or does it quit before this?
Do you lose any other ignition controlled units, eg radio, heater when you turn the key to the start position.
Have you tried jiggling the key whilst doing this?

The fuel gauge may be an isolated incident.. It used to work off and on B4 the thing quit

Unfortunately the '89 740 turbo doesn't have the On-Board Diagnostic unit that you can interrogate. It needs a Volvo tool.

Back to basics then. Here is a check list for no start on a cold engine:
