Source for aftermarket Cam Position Sensor
Source for aftermarket Cam Position Sensor
I need to replace the Hall Effect Sensor used in the Cam Position Sensor (CPS) in my son's 1997 NA 850. I saw a source for the$13.00-$15.00 part in some forum a while back (and now can't find it). I really don't want to pay the nearly $200.00 Volvo wants for this simple part. Anyone know of a source and their part number. If so I'll post a set of pictorial DIY instructions to save many 850 owners $$$. I have a few inquiries out to different Hall Effect Sensor manufacturers, but don't know if their sales and tech support folks will know what the proper part is for the Volvo application. Thanks.

you can try ebay as some stores sell the sensor without the casing...
to be honest, i would go oem bosch these cars are not friendly with non oem electronics..
you can search online stores such as fcp or eeuroparts or an other good sources as per the members here is dw volvo also , the price is well below the 200 $ in these stores..
or if your looking for a cheap alternative i would go used but bosch oem..
cheers !

I agree with going OEM for critical engine parts.
Call these guys for rock bottom dealer prices:
Darryl Waltrip Volvo
(800) 689-0021
Ask for Jamie or Don
At least you'll have a baseline price.
If you do go A/M, let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!

I bought a $2 CPS at the JY. In fact I bought 3. Keep 2 as spares. Two years on, and the first one hasn't failed yet. Check out the pullapart junkyard in Arlington. They had 2 850s and 1 960 last time I was there. The CPS is the same although the 850 is much easier to access.

Ambitious but rubbish
Thanks,
Are you interested in selling one of your spares? Any idea if the 850s and the 960 are still fairly full of goodies or have they been pretty well used already? (It's a 5-6 hour round trip deal to get to Arlington, do anything and then head back home on the Edmonds/Kingston ferry)
Thanks, Scott

I'm not sure I would want to risk such a long drive. I was at the Arlington yard Dec 12 so they might have changed since. You can call up the yards and ask what Volvos they have in stock and how long they have been there. The Tacoma probably closer to you. I'm taking care of both the 850 and an older 960 for my parents so I'm going to hang on to my stash. Plus I think they are still in my old garage in California (moving is a process).bipd818 wrote:Thanks,
