Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Tire Scrubbing

Post by jsnider76 »

I have a 2001 with factory 17 inch rims. I bought the car as a certified preowned several years ago and it has been a joy. At some point The front end began to sag and the front tires started scrubbing. My Volvo mechanic was very dimissive of this issue and said "they all do it". Well, my car didn't do it for many years and I don't find it acceptable. I'm replacing the struts and spring seats in the next couple of weeks but I am interested in knowing about other peoples experiences with this.

I have a 2000 with 17's. 187,000 miles and haven't experienced anything like this. I'll bet the strut and spring change will take care of it for you.

The problem could also be worn steering stops. They limit the travel of the wheel. You can try replacing them with stock factory stops or IPD's thicker stops. They're not expensive and are an easy bolt-on install on the front of the lower control arm.
.

SOLD - 2001 Volvo S80 T6: Mobil 1 Oil & Synthetic ATF, Brake Performance drilled and slotted front rotors, Akebono Euro Ceramic pads and Yokohama Avid V4S tires, 91K miles.

Thanks! I have researched the stop limiters and I am certain that is the issue. I really apreciate it.
