2005 S40 leaking from behind dash

Post by JosesCars »

I have a California 2005 S40 that is leaking quite a lot when it rains. It has also had some issues with fuses blowing that *appear* to be related to rain and carwashes, but not sure on that.

In any case the water appears to be coming in on the left hand side of the dash. There are drip marks on the protective rubber pad on the wheelwell intended for your left foot.

I have seen some posts about sunroof, leaking windscreens and clogged tubes. Any tips on diagnosing which is the issue?

Thanks in advance

Just a quick update on this to add some info and bump it up a little.

I found a bunch of leafy junk crammed in the water channel along the wind screen and there was a bunch around the post that the wiper rotates on.

I can see what looks like a little drain hole below the wiper post. Is there any easy way to clean that out? For example, am I safe trying to push wire or coat hanger through there to make sure that it is clear?

Thanks in advance.

Wow - see my post on the same issue. Take off the trim under the windshield (remove wiper arms) and see what is down there, test pour water through. Also in the pockets in front of your doors. I hope this was my problem, mnaybe it is yours too!

PS check the drains in your sunroof too - ours were really clogged.

When we bought the car last summer, I changed the cabin filter and it was crammed with leaves - the previous owners must have parked it in the forest or something

I will check it out. How did you go about changing the cabin air filter? I don't even know where that one is located.

Thanks for the tip BTW
