1996 850 T5 BREAK JOB GONE WRONG!!!

Hi guys,

Ok so I'm in the garage replacing my rear disc rotors. I took out the wheel,The 2 bolts holding the calipers,2 retaining pins (for the pads),the pads, and the really small bolts that sticks out of the caliper. I tried removing the disc and it would only wiggle. I hit it at least 20 times with a hammer before I realized the E-brake was on. I disengaged the E-brake and still wouldn't come out. It seems like I haven't taken something out and it's still being held. I pulled so hard that I began to see the inside of the ebrake workings..AH OH!!!!

I HAVE REALLY FORCED THE DISC...TOO MUCH

WHY WONT THE DISC COME OUT?
THE LUG NUTS WERE REALLY tight but I doubt this would cause it??
WHAT HAVE I MISSED???

PLEASE help..lol???

You might have a ridge worn on the inside edge of the e-brake drum that is causing it to catch on the shoes. Is there an adjustment for the e-brake that you can back off all the way?

Hi Vegas,

I don't know of any way to lower the E-brake all the way besides just the hand bar...there may be another way I just don't know unfortunately

Would this cause both sides to have the same problem?

I have no idea what to do!!! OMG...frustarting...I need the car tomorrow morning..and even tonight...thought this would take 1 hour MAX...

Relax a bit before you really break something! Use a slotted screwdriver through the access hole in the disk, and adjust the e-brake shoes as loose as you can get them. Then you should be able to wiggle the disk free of the shoes. With all the banging, you may have damaged those little shoes already.

Hey Renns, when you say access hole is that the same hole which had a bolt holding the rotor in it....

The blue circled spot?

I've never adjusted the e-brakes before

The E-brake shoes are probably stuck due to rusted cables. You may be able to loosen them by turning the adjustment screw through a hole in the rotor. Try shining a light thru the rotor holes and see if you can see the adjustment. You did remove the disc guide screw (#9), right?
