My copy of VADIS shows for a 2000 S80 T6 to use: "Only ATF fluid Dexron III (with G-license)." Since Dexron III (with G-license) has been superseded by the latest Dexron which is VI. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEXRON you should be fine using the Dexron which you described.
I question why did you add a couple of litres of Dexron? Did you use the proper method to check the level of the fluid? i.e. with transmission 'hot' and idling in park? If you added a couple litres when it may have already been full, this could probably cause it to leak. Overfilling a tranny might be as bad as being low....
Have you had any DTC's (trouble codes) read? If so, what were/are they?
Are you sure it is a five speed automatic? My information is that only a 4 speed automatic came for this year.... My info above is based on the 4 speed GM transmission...

Hi,
My car is not the s80 T6, but the 2.0T which is a 2Lt 5 cyl turbo. This came with the 5 speed ASIN gearbox (AW55-50/51SN).
I think I did over fill the gearbox when I filled in the DexIII which also was the wrong fluid. As per VADIS I need to use the JWS3309 spec oil, which Volvo sells. Mobil 3309 and Toyota T IV are equivalent to this oil.
Question is, will the DEXIII harm the tranny in any way??? If yes, then potentially what am I looking at??
Hoping that the disconnected battery will reset the tranny controller module and the oil change will rectify the problem.
Cheers,

Hi,
Looks like my car's tranny is dead and gone.. I reconnected the battery and the codes were still there and the gearbox just refuses to slot into any gear. Now it seems that the DEX III did some damage and I have no drive at all.
Can some one give me some ideas. I am going to tow the car to a garage who it seems has the VIDA and get the codes pulled out. That should give me some ideas.
In the meantime can you guys give me the worst case scenarios and also I need some links and details of people who can rebuild the gearbox and where I can get parts and stuff.
Cheers,

Strange. My copy of VADIS does not show the 5 cylinder turbo being available on the 2000 S80. It only shows up when I get to the 2004 year specs..... Your title says 2000 S80 2.0T. Should it perhaps show 2004?
Hi,
The 2.0T was sold primarily in Europe and Australia as the entry level model. My car came with me from the UK.
One question before I take my car to the volvo guys here, can I pull the transmission codes with a CAN OBDII scanner (Innova Brand)?? If yes then I will be able to potentially save about $150.. Also can someone give me some ideas what the problem can be??
Ideas and advice are most welcome.
Cheers...
