That's not what I meant, I was saying there's no need to open the fuel system at all, just to get the manifold off for a PCV job.

If you've got to take the injectors off the rail then forget what I said.

But, if you're just replacing the outer o-rings, why take them off the rail?

If you're just pulling the rail out, you don't need to let out the pressure - the injectors stay closed unless given an electrical pulse. If you're taking them OFF, then yes, you need to let out the pressure or it'll be like a screwing the nozzle off a hose while it's still on

well i started the job of replacing the o rings...by the way on this model i had to depressurise the fuel rail. you have to in order to change both o rings...upper and lower...i also have a solid fuel line attached to the fuel rail...i simply removed the hold down bracket near the rear (follow the fuel line and you'll see it ) and it was easier to move the fuel rail around. a good word of advice...make sure you don't let the sealing rings fall down into the engine compartment. ( they are the blue things that go between the injector and the fuel manifold ) i put an old tshirt down under the injectors so that parts and debris can't fall into the manifold or the engine compartment. also be careful that the rubber seals that are above the injector don't come out...there is no mention of this seal in the diagram that the volvo dealer faxed to me. anyway...the original problem was gas was leaking out from under the seating ring on one injector. so i thought the o ring was leaking...not the case...looks like the injector has a leak and the high pressure is pushing up thru the sealing ring. i'm going to replace it in the next couple of days...james

well all...after replacing 2 leaky injectors and putting it back together 2 other injectors started leaking...it seems that the old injectors become fragile over time (16 years old) and when you pull them out they crack easily...so i ended up replacing all 5 injectors...i bought them at auto zone here in chicago...$49.99 or online www.autozone.com for the new design version...i lined up the o rings of both new and old injectors...the exact replacement injector didn't match up...the new design did...i put it back together and ta da! no leaks! all is well...james

HELP TO VOLVO LOVER......Injection injecting on to engine... Last night while my usual rounds my 1995 850 (not turbo) started smelling of gas bad, I mean vapor gas and hot......with my daughter on board and only a block from my house I headed there and maid it, thought I wasnt since it was cutting of at one point, when I got home I lifted the hood and saw the injector closest to the riight was spraying large amounts of gas into the engine compartment. A very dangerous thing on a hot engine. I want to repair it my self and need some help. I tried taking the plate of but found resistance with fuel line, read some forum but need to know about fuel pressure(which is not my case since it sprays out when started....... should I just replace the Leaking with the generic that I found for 48.00 (im on a budget) and if I need to recalibrate(how and what tools I'll need) and repressurize after.

Please help me Volvo Brothers.........

are the injectors original equipment? if they are you may have to replace them all because they become fragile over time...you can try replacing just the one that's leaking and see how that works out...make sure you don't lose the top rubber seal when you pull the injector out...it may just stay in place...you don't have to do any "recalibrating"...the fuel pump will repressurize them normally...
