Hello, Nobody has posted an answer yet so I'll try guessing. Since you'd think ALL the brake lights would light up if a brake light switch were bad or out of adjustment you'd be reasonable to think toward something else which controls lighting in these new-fangled horror machines we drive. What powers these lights? I've read that weak batteries in alarm units can create all sorts of problems. Are the center brake lights part of the alarm's light show? Did you install a trailer hitch wiring black box in the left rear of the car? Is there a seperate powered relay which lights the CHMSL? Anybody else? Kira

It might be 2 wires shorting (or a broken one) in the tailgate harness. The wires inside get worn out after the hatch is open & shut many times.
