Hello. I am shopping for pads / rotors for my 2001 XC70. Should I go with ceramic or organic or semi-metal? Also, are there distinct differences in quality for the price? Thanks, John B.

Akebono Euro Ceramic are very good. That's what I had on my T6. Good price, good performance, no dust, no noise.john b wrote:Hello. I am shopping for pads / rotors for my 2001 XC70. I have Ceramic brakes on my DB9S as I suffered brake fade now I dont have any. As for price I found they're 2-3 times as much as standard pads, you may need harder discs as ceramic pads are far harder on normal discs especailly Pagid which seem to be very soft for some reason. If you can afford it then Carbon Fibre are a good investment but hellishly expensive.
I agree there is no noise and no dust after a good long run say 200miles you can smell the brakes

Ceramic pads shouldn't be any tougher on the rotors than the OE (metallic) pads. The OE pads ate up all four rotors on my vehicle at under 50K miles. I've been running Akebono Euro ceramics with Brembo replacement rotors since and have had no dusting problems and rotor wear is less if anything. The Akebonos were only marginally more in cost than the OE, but I think I've seen good ceramics for less since. Got mine from FCP Groton and would do it again.
