Painting the faded trim/bumpers?

So like most 850's my bumpers are that grey faded color. My car is silver and I was thinking to use "showroom new black" to dye the bumpers/etc black. Do you guys think it's a good idea to go from grey to black, will it come out good? Or do I get the grey dye instead of black? http://showroomnewproducts.com/_mgxroot/page_10772.html

I also used a product called "Black Again" on the bumpers of my Honda that were very similar to the 850, and had good results with it. They just recently started making the product again.

I am in the same boat, wanting to spiff up my bumbers. I have used two different dyes and neither hold up very long. Next time its going to be a prep and bumper paint job. My car sits outside all day every day and that may shorten the life of the dyes.

What is the actual color that these bumbers came in new? I have seen pictures that show them as black, I had a 95 that I got in 99-00 that was dark gray. Did it depend on the paint color? Some black, some gray?

If you happen to have an electric heat gun, try this: Wash the faded parts and let them dry completely. Use the heat gun, blowing out at max in a small area to see results and to get the hang of it (distance and time) so that you do not melt the plastic. It works very well. What it does is to make the plasticizers that are inside the plastic to come to the surface, replenishing the one plasticizer that faded away because of the sun action (UV rays) and chemicals used in washing and detailing. It rellay gets new again if you do it in a careful and even manner.

This sounds interesting. I'm curious to see results from someone trying it.

Please don't use any of that crap
Go to the auto parts store, buy yourself a couple of cans of bumper spray paint in grey/black.
Spend an hour CAREFULLY masking everything up well.
Clean (prepsol) the plastic then give it all a light scuffing with a Scotchbrite pad.
Then paint them with several THIN coats of the bumper paint
You can do a perfect job that will last for years in half of a Sat afternoon and be done in time for cocktails!
