For those, like me, that find that you have a leaking cap and no immediate means for the proper replacement, you can use a GM cap. Readily available at most discount or local parts stores, the measuring stick might be a bit long but you can cut that off. As I said, a temporary repair but it beats trying to shim the existing gasket to get a better seal. And if you are lucky, they go for about $5-7.

Cheers,

I had the same issue. Needed a cap. But the hose went bad as well. Cost $90 at the stealer.

Volvo also changed the tank and hose design sometime in late '03 or early '04 and issued a TNN for it.

Hello guys, mind if i chime in and give my thoughts!!??

What i would do if it was mine is adjust the locking tabs on the cap to make a tighter fit. That would more than likely cure the problem!

Just a thought, have a great day!

I have had my S70 for about 6wks now and just over a week ago my steering started to groan. I check my Ps res and found it wanting some fluid. So I put some in to the required mark. I have just checked it again and it was early empty. Can anybody help me. Steve

Here's what I don't understand. The cap sure looks like it's designed to be a pressure-cap, like the ones on the coolant reservoirs. That's what the spring is for, right? Why is there pressure building up in the PS fluid reservior? Is that normal or a sign of something going wrong? I think fluid gets pushed out by the pressure, after splashing around in there. Maybe the pressure-release path in the cap is clogged up. Does anyone know if PS fluid system is supposed to build up pressure? I'm having same problem on my GM car, a small but constant amount of PS fluid coming out around the cap. If I take the cap off after the engine's been running awhile I hear a little "phhht" of pressure releasing.
And BTW, my 2004 S60 began to leak from underneath the PS reservior, it turned out to be just a loose clamp on the hose into the bottom of the reservior.

I don't know if this has been said yet, but I fix these leaks all the time by replacing the hose clamps on the reservoir. The leakage can sometimes be deceiving on these cars.
