Group:
My '01 S602.4T power steering fluid reservoir has been leaking since the car was out of warranty due to time. It currently has only 64K miles on it. Was there a recall or TSB on this problem?
I try to avoid the dealer as much as possible.
It is a fairly early model purchased in March of '01.
A bit of PS fluid now and then is much cheaper than changing the reservoir or removing it to see why it leaks. Actually it seems to leak around the cap.
It is not overfilled.
TIA for any advice.

I am glad someone else brought up this problem; I have exactly the same issue on my V70. I looked at the cap, the reservoir and the lines, but all seems good. I recently refilled a little fluid to bring it back up to par, but am puzzled where the leak is. I will post pictures when I get back from my trip; maybe it is the cap, just don't know what else it could be. Quite the mess around the top of the reservoir though.

Hello, A suction line on my V70 had a SMALL leak at the reservoir outlet barb. Maybe a loose hose clamp or razor blade cut from a previous hose removal. It drew air and caused the fluid to foam. The foam expanded out the top of the reservoir alot. That leakage from above covered any evidence of leakage at the reservoirs' bottom. Try tightening clamps, adding a wrap of teflon tape. My suction line had turned into a soft ratty mess so I replaced it. Kira

To fix this problem you need to buy a new cap. The gasket is not available seperately, it will come with the new cap. Part number is 9475862, just put the part number into our search bar.

Here is a picture of the PS reservoir with the leak...

...and the culprit is definitely the cap. The green seal under cap just goes bad...

In the process of ordering a new one...meanwhile I just put a bunch of electrical tape on top of the seal to tighten the fit.

Can you pull the seal and put the tape (spacer) on the other side, to add the additional height needed to get a good seal? I'm beginning to experience similar indications.

I tried to work on removing the seal and turning it around; no avail without damaging the cap. Once I get my new cap I will try taking it apart.

Call me crazy but I might not put small pieces of electrical tape on top of that cap. If they fall off where do they go? I would deal with the leak until you get a new cap.
