850 right hand drive axel problems

Post by teal850 »

I hope somebody out there can help me, 'cuz I'm at my wits end. I have a '96 850 and armed with a Haynes manual. The right hand drive axel is bad so I took it out, (not to hard to get it out). But when I put the new one back in I couldn't get it all the way in (about a 1/2 inch is still left out). When I try to take it out I couldn't either. So i try pounding the drive axel in with a dead blow hammer but to no avil. Now I'm stuck. Can't drive it in and can't pull it out. Don't have enough room for a Pry bar due to two metal lines blocking the way. Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm using jack stands, not a lift, so it's pretty tight under there. Any tips or adivce would be appreciated!!! Thanks.
