V70 upgrade wiper blades

Post by jeff618 »

Last fall I upgraded my wipers on the V70 to Trico NeoForm Beam Blades that have a teflon coating. I wanted to report that they work very well. They wipe clean and are very quiet (probably because of the teflon). Performed well in fall and winter (in wisconsin) and so far so good in spring. They came with step by step removal and replacement instructions and were an easy installation. I'm posting now because I just received an email from wipers123 where I purchased mine, and there's currently a $15 rebate on NeoForms through 5/15/10 and an additional $5 instant coupon "springreturningcustomer". I'm not ready to replace mine yet so take it if you want it...

Advance Auto Parts is running a sale on the Rain-X Latitudes (very similar to the Tricos) if anyone is interested. I just brought a set yesterday to deal with the rain we are getting and they work better then any other blades I have used. It pays to get the good ones.

On most of our cars I use the Bosch Aero models which are expensive, but last a bit longer than standard blades, seem to clean the windshield better than most during their life, and due to their construction (similar to the Trico and Rain-X, I believe) are effectively a great winter wiper, too.

That said, when I bought my 850, it came with some new, standard looking Volvo-branded wipers that worked fantastically. They lasted well over two years which is highly unusual in the northeast. I had my garage replace them, assuming I'd get those again, but they installed plain old Bosch wipers which is fine, but I was hoping they'd put another set of the Volvo ones on.

I always find that my first set of OEM wipers on my new cars last a little longer. At first I thought the replacements were crap until someone pointed out to me that as the windshield gets older, it gets pitted and basically turns into sand paper so to speak - so, on cars with miles on them, its probably more a function of the windshield than the wiper and the replacements may be as good or better than the originals. After my first set I usually replace every 6 months in fall and spring.

BTW, the wipers are simple to change so you may want to try it yourself and save some money at the dealer. I order mine online so I don't have to deal with the stores and out of stock situations. Both Bosch and Trico NeoForm are available online... When they arrive, it literally takes less than 5 minutes to swap them out. Lastly, they come with removal and replacement instructions right on the package.

No, no. When I say I bought my 850, I mean when I bought it new to me - 2 1/2 years ago! :)

I always replace my own wipers, but I was so impressed with how well those Volvo branded wipers worked that I had my independent shop where I bought the car and have it serviced (and I'm sure they installed the Volvo wipers when they prepared it for sale) replace them which they did for the same price as if I'd bought them on my own. I usually replace them in the AutoZone parking lot!
