I have made a few posts on this issue in boards here and there, anyway after you have read the instructions on how to get your SW out, and if you have ventured as far as pulling the SW apart to find the orange plastic slider has a nice divet in it from being melted by the copper contacts..... Then..... this is what you do next.

Gently pry up the 4 copper contacts, the orange plastic slider will pull out. Go and buy yourself a new tube of SuperGlue with a fine nozzle. Fill the divet & let it dry repeat until the build up of the glue is domed, gently trim flat again with a razor. Re-install in SW. The offending contact will be visibly blackened or worn down from arcing, cleaning it goes without saying to restore connectivity. If you left this too loing you may have fried the circuit, in which case unless your a better electrician than I am, it's time to head down to Volvo to buy your new SW. The culprit I suspect is the excessive electrical load put on the SW by the underpowered door motor dragging a heavy window up & down, thus heating the contacts up. If you ever have reason to have the door liner off at any stage a clean of the window regulator motor would be a wise prevention step, and is very accessable

Great description of the "how to." I actually had the entire inside door panel off last night before I figured out the switch module pops out. I may use the super glue method and get a few more years out of the old switch unit.

One question - will the defective driver side window switch affect the operation of my power rearview window and sunroof?

Thanks.

Matthew,

Thanks for a fabulous how-to. Volvo should be mightily ashamed of this car series in the years 98-00. Mine has failed like clockwork on the same things that fail on everyone else's car - ABS module, lock modules, PNP switch, power window switch etc... and it only has 40K miles on it !

Hello everyone;
I have my curtesy lights that sometimes stay on after the door is closed.
I suspect it may be a door switch problem that should be actuated when the door is sensed closed. If the door is slammed shut it will work the lights okay. I don't know where to look for this switch if it exist. Anyone have info.
Thanks
Ralph :(

Thanks so much for this detailed piece! You saved me about $100 on this repair, and the description of how to get the window up using a screw driver allowed me to drive the car until the part came in from the e-bay auction.

Many thanks!
