MAF Sensor

I have just completed cleaning the MAF sensor on my S80 2002 and have landed myself in trouble. I cleaned it with a Carb cleaner and now I have a message " Engine System Maintenance Required" Error code 042. Before this i have cleaned my air filter with a water flush and dried it to the best of my ability.

I hope this is not the cause.

I have looked (googled) for the 042 code , so far no luck. I just hope the sensor is not dead. BTW, I reinserted the sensor and left the car over-night like this, this morning it wont even start. The same system message is still there and now an additional message "brake failure" has come on.

I am very confused with this car.

Hi,
042 is not a standard OBD code. Closest thing I can think of is

P0042
DTC Definition: HO2S Bank 1 Sen 3 Heater Circuit

Did you use a normal OBD scanner or are you on a PPC scanner. Or did Volvo tell you this.

PPC codes with 042 come back as
ABS-0042 Right rear wheel sensor. Faulty signal
BCM-0042 Right rear wheel sensor. Faulty signal
BCM-0042 Wheel sensor right rear. Mechanical fault
DDM-0042 Door warning lamp. Signal too low
ECM-0420 Catalytic converter efficiency. Faulty signal
ECM-0420 Three-way catalytic converter (TWC) efficiency, bank 1.Signal too low
ECM-0425 Catalytic converter temperature sensor. Faulty signal
ECM-0426 Front temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Faulty signal
ECM-0427 Front temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Signal too low
ECM-0428 Front temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Signal too high
ECM-042B Rear temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Faulty signal
ECM-042C Rear temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Signal too low
ECM-042D Rear temperature sensor, catalytic converter. Signal too high
KVM-0042 Switch unlocking left rear. Activated too long
PDM-0042 Control module. Internal fault
SAS-0042 Steering wheel angle sensor. Internal fault
SRS-0042 Front right side air bag. Capacitance too high. Intermittent fault
SRS-0042 Front right side air bag. Capacitance too high. Permanent fault
SRS-0042 Passenger seat belt tensioner. Resistance too low
SRS-0042 Right front side impact protection (SIPS) bag. Capacitance too high. Intermittent fault
SRS-0042 Right front side impact protection (SIPS) bag. Capacitance too high. Permanent fault
SUM-0042 Position sensor, suspension right rear. Signal too high
TCM-0042 Counter, oil quality. The counter exceeds the limit value
TCM-0042 Oil temperature. Temperature too high

As far as your MAF you will have to remove it and clean it again with a proper MAF cleaner. If it was destroyed by the carb cleaner then just replace it.

lets wait and see on the brake failure message. Perhaps you just loosened/unpluged something on the master cylinder or ABS pump while you were working on the car.

Doesn't the Car's electronics tell you if the MAF sensor is bad? On the error code, I got the 042 after trying to reset the "engine system maintenance required" error .

btw, what is HO2S Bank 1 Sen 3 Heater Circuit and where is it located?

Now the battery has died. Left the vehicle with the MAF sensor connected. Nothing was left on and all I find is a dead battery the following morning.

I imagine H02S means heated 02 (oxygen) sensor...

Managed to Charge the battery. Vehicle runs smoothly with MAF sensor disconnected. Once connected, the vehicle jecks badly and stall . I am making arrangements to purchase MAF sensor. It will be 14 days or so before it arrives. Could I still use the vehicle with the sensor disconnected?
