My wife has been driving the platinum for the last couple of weeks while the '94 has had its clutch woes and she made an offhand comment that it was running rough in the morning until it warmed up.

I took it out this morning and it ran very rough and died on me three times going to and from the Quick Trip. It did seem to get smoother after it warmed up so I was thinking fuel pump relay and when I got back home I snatched the spare out of the '94 and installed it.

While doing that I noticed that the frigging coil wire was completely unplugged from the coil and the spark had been jumping about 3/8" and the car still ran - simply amazing.

I wonder why it won't run worth beans if the plug gap exceeds 0.028"?

With people always bashing their Volvo's for one thing or another its nice to hear a story like this. At their core, they are still great cars.

The designs are just so durable and they will keep going under heavy abuse and with so many bits missing or sub-par. Gott love the Volvo!

I drove across the country on <1 quart of oil. I got an oil change in FL and they cross threaded the oil plug, and it mostly drained out (unbeknown to me). I noticed when I was driving a film was on the back window, but it was raining so I figured it was stuff from the highway.

I got to Albuquerque and my lifters were clapping like crazy. Went for another oil change (2400 miles later) and it had less than a quart.

Compression on the engine 50,000 miles later is still high 180's to low 200's across the cylinders. 2400 miles of 75-80 mph driving across the south in the dead of summer. Amazing.

After 184,450
I can still pass the obstructing Truck pulling a trailer home quickly enough that i start at 55mph behind it and be the time its passed the cars doing 80 with out one even noticing it.

its also worth mention that even in the rare case of a triple digit speed coming up its as smooth as it is at 30mph

Yay s70 t5!
