I used to drive an '85 245. That car was a Rock! I sold it to a friend who is still deeply in love with it several years later.
He stopped by the other day and was still remarkably happy with how well and how smoothly it cranks right up and goes.
Volvo gives you a great car to start with. Good, solid designs. Ya just gotta pay attention and take care of'em.
Nice cars! 8)

A friend of mine was looking for a car and I introduced them to the 93 850. They said it drove like it was a newer car and when i showed them the safety highlights and engineering, they bought one of their own shortly after. How many domestic ares even 5 years old can hold its worth againts the 17 year old Volvo?

When we were pregnant w/ our 1st child I bought my Wife a 95' 855 GLT. She had it dealer serviced and I have been keeping her in the game and driving her daily. My Daughter will get this wagon as her 1st car in 10 months. I know she's gonna bump something. So I feel confident that 'if and when' that may happen, she'll have a very good chance to walk away.
That car is a 'Beast'!
My '95' T-5R' will compensate my dedication to keeping this car road worthy for her.
The '850' is their greatest design. They just don't make em' like they use to.
'120's' & '240's' are also bulletproof.

The only thing I would trade our 98 V70R or S70 is for a little newer Volvo, both are approaching 200K and easily (knock on wood) have another 100 left.

They are wonderful cars once you take care of the typical grocery list ie. spring seats yada yada

Your right amazing and a total blast to drive I'm in love with mine for sure.We drove in our 09 subabru forester to get mine it was a bit rougher than advertised so I said to my wife I think we should just go home .She said maybe you should call the lady and test it maybe you can get it for less than they want. When I made the shift from 2nd to third with the turbo spooling up some I was like "I WANT THIS CAR" so smooth and obviously it was fast.So I dickered the lady down to what I'd pay for it and have been in love with it ever since. Now my wife can't understand for the life of her why I want a volvo wagon. On the way home we had to stop for gas. I said that car is smoother and rides better than the subaru she just rolls her eyes and says I'm retarded .On the way home I got voted to pickup the kids from dance so we are pulling up on the highway and the kids in the back both say gee dad this thing rides better than the subaru.......A 15 year old car with close to 300000 kms on it....
...I love it!! :D I have driven the subaru about 6 times since I got my car (I take the volvo every chance I get)7 months ago and everytime I get in it I think boy is this thing tinny.

We too have a newer Subaru Forester in the stable, and I far prefer the 850. Besides feeling more substantial inside, it's far more comfortable, and the power matched with the decent auto transmission means that it hardly ever has to downshift even on hilly roads once I set the cruise. The Forester's NA 4 is underpowered and matched to a terrible 4spd auto that is constantly gear hunting and buzzing up to 4000 rpm. In other words, we usually take the 850 on road trips. :)
