2001 v70 tranny
hi,i recently bought a 2001 v70t5,first it got locked in park for 4 days and no one could figure out why.my wife noticed that the brake lights were not working either and when it did come out of park the brakelights did come on.so i changed the brake light switch and problem solved.it amazed me that the dealer wanted to charge me 800$ for a new shifter to correct the problem.now the transmission clunks going into drive and coming to a stop and shifts hard into third gear.i am told that this is due to a bad valve body which cost around 1200$.this after i had the upgrade download done and the reprogramming and the fluid change and some other little solenoid replaced.at around 500$.i am at this point into this car for about 9000$including what ipaid for it 2 months ago.i am told that the trade in value is 1200$.any suggestions on a better solution?
You are already deep into it with $9000. Don't trade it in now, you'll lose big.
Check the motor and tranny mounts, shot mounts would give you hard clunks with shifting. Replace the B4 servo cap, only $20 is simple, so do it yourself. This might help a lot with the shifting clunks, but would not cure the tranny that is failing from poor maintenance.
Replacing the mounts and servo cover is not that expensive and it might surprise you how it improves, SHORT OF THAT, just drive the car until the tranny dies.

I agree about the mounts, I replaced my tranny mount at 80k and what a difference in start, stop, and 1-2-3 shifts. Motor mount and cross brace bushings up top helped to some degree as well. Bought mine at IPD-USA and installed myself very easy. Please use the IPD link on top of this page to help support the forum.

Last, If your trans fluid is not black and burned, try a drain and fill or two to clean it up. www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26863&p=117893 For about $75 including funnel, fluid, and pan. Also very easy.
Good Luck, I hope yours turns out well. My V70 has been fun to drive, has saved my life twice, and is still going.
