How to turn off, reset all warning lights?!

Post by luvmybassetthound »

Hey there, i just completed an engine/transmission swap and every time I turn the key all the warning lights in the dash come on(AND STAY ON WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING)--that is all but the Check Engine light LOL. I have never had to reset these lights and have no clue where to begin. Thanks in advance for all/any assistance!

You have to review your ECU for error codes, maybe a conection or vacuum loose..

Review this link...It can help you a lot..

Thanks for the prompt feed back. The vehicle in question is a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT. I have an OBD diagnostic scanner and no codes come up...but all the dash lights come on when I turn the key--the battery, oil, radiator, everything except the Check Engine light.

In the first post you said that you did engine/transmission swap.

I suppose that you also installed the engine ecu from the donnor car.

When you turn the key all lights are supposed to light. That way you know if a bulb is out.

Or am I misunderstanding?

First, the engine was from a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT--which is a low-pressure turbo--so all of the turbo components were removed and plugged accordingly. Accordingly, the ECU from the 1997 will not work in the 1996--or at least that is what we were informed by our Volvo mechanic. I have tried removing and then reinstalling the ECU and still the same result.

As far as the lights coming on...yes they are suppose to come on when you first turn the key...but they REMAIN ON WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING :-(

If the alternator is not hooked back up correctly most - but not all - of the idiot lights will stay on. If you can be specific as to exactly what lights are on that would help.

Hi Lee, these are lights this morning when turning on the key only:
windshield wiper fluid, gas, bulb failure, SRS (but goes off shortly after key is turned on), battery, oil, brake, parking brake, ABS, arrow, Radiator, Check Engine, Service

When the car is started the following lights go off:
SRS (but this goes off anyway with the key left on)
Oil
ABS
Arrow

The check engine light is staying on today and the code is p0103 or volume Air flow circuit high

How can the alternator be hooked up incorrectly?!
