99 V70 auto/shift panel..

New to me car & I've already bot a 2nd key ($$$). Recently noticed at nite the shift panel for the various gears, P,R,D etc is not illuminated, & I'm thinking it shud be. Is this a bulb replacement job for a handy owner, or another leave it 'cause you can't afford the dealer fix? 115k & no major issues yet, but I believe there's a white sticker on the TCM...I almost bailed @ the last minute after reading here, but it was the best looking, rite priced alternative available at that time. Fingers crossed, Thanx for any help, I'm sure I'll be back. Also have a 90' 240 w 275k & lots of duct tape...

It's doable yourself. You'll have to get the bulb from the dealer, though.

Basically the console has to be removed to get to it. It's not a terribly hard job, I had mine off to replace a parking brake cable in about 30 mins after realizing I had missed a screw.

Of course after I did that, the stupid light burned out the next week
