Im pretty sure the power antenna is activated by power to the unit - I have installed the aerial switch that allows the antenna to go down when listening to CD's/Aux/Ipod's so I could not imagine that they would sell a unit without power antenna (could be wrong - been wrong before - haha) thanks for the reply. I think the flash cards would have to be formatted in FAT32 - curios to find out if my 16gb flash drive will work...

I soldered the wiring harnesses together on my table. Just plugged it in for a test and everything seems to be working. There is some confusion about the audio interrupt cable, but I think I've got it figured out. Both iPod and radio are working.

The more difficult part is figuring out how to mount it. The mounting kit I bought has virtually no instructions, just a diagram that is not very detailed. Guess I'll play around with this for a while.

BTW this unit sounds really good. It does use a high quality D/A converter. The built-in amp has a small heat sink on the back. It got really hot. I think I'll invest in the external amp for this stereo. It costs like $110 or $140 or something, not too bad.

OK it's pretty easy to mount this thing. The stereo just slides in either the top or bottom slot, and the empty compartment fits in the other slot, with the 2 correct plastic pieces on the side. Trouble is, the compartment has a flaw in the plastic. On one side the bracket won't slide on all the way. I hit it with some sandpaper and it's a little better, so I'm gonna go get a small file. I also need some of those round plastic thimble things to keep my wires from touching. Electrical tape turns to glue. I took off what was there.

And yes, you do have to break the center tabs on the 2 plastic brackets. Vice grips work nicely.

I haven't pulled out the tabs and fully clipped the stereo in just yet, so I will take a few pictures today. Next step is to drill a hole somewhere for the iPod cable. Could go through the blank compartment, into the glove box, or below the glove box.

I've never installed my own car stereo before. I assume you're supposed to leave the audio interrupt cable unplugged.

I'm not quite finished yet, but the plastic compartment on top was being finicky. Good enough for today, plus the Lakers game was on earlier. Anyway, here's a picture to give you an idea of what this unit looks like mounted.

The Panasonic is no longer available. Any idea which stereo may have replaced it or where you can still purchase one?

i had one jvc kw-xg700 instaled until this weekend when they broke into my car and stole it. I replaced the speakers in the door with alpine, but the sound wasn't so good. Sunday i instaled the factory radio in and a cd changer and they sound like i have a sub in the car, and the sound is crystal clear. So the conclusion is cause the original is gonna sound alot better all the time cause they spend time and money to make sure is the right one for the car. There are people out there who even installed an auxiliary imput in the original radio.
