No Fuel

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

No Fuel

Post by DrD »

We just purchased a 2000 S80 T6 with the intent of allowing our rugrat to occasionally drive it to school. The vehicle has been sitting up for four years. Have replaced battery and added fresh fuel to the crap that was in the tank. I can get the vehicle to crank and run (momentarily) by blasting starter fluid (eyther) into the airbox but engine will not continue to run. I read on the forum that occasionally the fuel pump relay might be a problem so I listened when the vehicle is switched on and I do not hear the pump. I have a spare relay and would willingly swap it for the fuel pump relay if only I knew where it was. Anyone have any directions for a "shade tree" ?

Well, after some more reading, I found that the relay box was behind the footboard in the driver's footwell. All that was needed was fingers similiar to ET's and a goodly supply of patience. After replacing the relay module for the fuel pump, we are still unable to hear the pump when the vehicle is switched on. Have checked the fuses (#s 31 -33) in the fuse box on the end of the dash on the driver's side of the vehicle. I am not sure of what to try next....

Fuel pump could be shot/corroded in place. You should never run a pump or car on 4 yr old gas - especially after 4 yrs in the GA heat. Test the pump with a meter to see if its getting voltage. Supply 12 volts with a small motorcycle battery to see if it goes at all. If not, Pull the pump and test it out of the car with a 12 volt supply. Remove the gas thats in there and start with fresh.

Replace the pump and sock as needed.
