Just behind the foglight grille.

Mine is still plugged in where it's supposed to be, yet shows temperatures of ~100 when it's 80 outside after I just start the car. I just figured it's cause my car is dark blue and gets HOT in the summer. It worked fine a few summers ago and fine in the winter.

It's only like a $30 part anyway.

I notice the temperature readout on the dashboard is about 20 degrees higher than outside and it seems to drop when the car is moving. I cannot find the sensor so it would be great if someone could point me to its location so I can check to see if it is touching something or the air flow is blocked.

Is this problem normally corrected by replacing the sensor?

I would appreciate pointers and pictures if you have.

Is it a new problem? My car adds maybe 5 degrees when parked, but that´s in celsius? In my work I drive a V70 -08 and it also adds a little when parked

It always adds some temp while not driving.
If it goes back to the correct temp in 2-3 minutes of driving, don't worry about it.
You all DO know that the 8/70 temp gauge reads 3-4 degrees too high?

It will read considerably higher if it isn't mounted properly though. Look near the fog lights on both sides of the car for the sensors , and when you find them, you should also be able to find the holes they are supposed to plug into on the plastic shield covering the underside of the front part of the car.

It just started fluctuating in the last month or so. It climbs up to a high point, drops down by about 10-15 when the car in moving. As soon as the speed slows down in traffic, the temperature starts climbing in steps of 2-3 degrees up to the previous high. It looks like it is related to air flow or a defective sensor.

I tried looking for the part that looks like the replacement (online picture) but I could not find it.

Does anyone have picture of where it is? I would like to avoid getting a manual just for the the location of the sensor. :(

Again, look at the front of your car. Get on the ground and look underneath where the fog lights are. Near or behind the plastic shield that covers the radiator/intercooler, you should be able to find the sensors dangling somewhere. Obviously it is related to airflow, since if they are mounted too close/improperly to the radiator area, it will get all that heat soak. When you speed up, the air is able to cool it off, showing you the lower reading.

I've never seen anyone talk about these things being defective. All that matters is their placement. And even when they are perfect, they do tend to read a little high.

There's two of them? Seems odd to have a 'backup' device on a car - I'd rather have a backup timing belt! :D

HI:
I am a 60+ female. The sensor is wild and it shows a farenheit temp of 120 sometimes. But I know it is inaccurate. why bother to change. (It does scare my passengers, but) ndc1943 at gmail
