A/C clutch shim procedure for S60 - 2002 S60 2.4T AWD

I've confirmed that my A/C clutch is not engaging properly and that it could be because of wear to the clutch plate . I've read several posts about shimming the clutch plate so that the gap is return to within spec. I've seen instructions posted for other Volvo's but not for the S60. Does someone have instructions on how to do this for the S60, or at least instructions on how to remove the A/C clutch pulley.

My garage and the Volvo dealer will not perform this work. Their solution is to spend >$1,000 to replace the compressor unit.

instructions for the 850 or S/V70 should be the same as the S60

All-

I failed in my attempt to reshim the AC clutch. I spent all day and could not get the clutch off. It looks like i'll have to bite the bullet and replace the compressor.

FCPGroton only offers a compressor made by "Air Products" Does anyone know how this brand compares to the OEM? Any recommendations

Problems with the bolt or holding the clutch?

Here are the instructions in case you need to replace it.

I had an Eldorado in the shop for a new magnetic clutch yesterday. It turned into a nightmare and I ended up replacing the compressor as well. The Volvo S60 is lovely to work on compared to an Eldorado with a Northstar.

a little confused on the compressor oil volume...if i put in a new compressor do i put in 2.3 oz of oil into the compressor? i read on another forum that you need to put in 4.2 oz... any help is appreciated!

Yes 2.3 oz if you replace the compressor. Some remans and new come with some oil already in it. Usually I see 1.5 oz in a reman so I add the remainder. The compressor should have a spec sheet attached that will tell you how much is in it. If not make sure you know before ordering.

If you cant get that info just drain the oil out of the compressor and replace with 2.3 oz before install. Then pull a vacuum and charge with the right amount of refrigerant.

Kevin, why don't you try the "gread clip" fix? At this point, what have you got to lose. It should only take you 15-20 minutes and won't cost you anything at all. I did this successfuly with both S70 and V70 a couple of years ago. I don't know for certain but I expect your 02 compressor is the same as my 00 V70.
