this is what i did on my 98 s70! i chiseled the piece of and filled in the whole by filling it in with brass

I didn't think you could use a 960 plate in a 850 turbo due to the turbo 850s having a different sized throttle body compared to the N/A's. :?: Did I think wrong? Plus I remember hearing that the turbo's don't have the plastic "chunk" on them anyway.

^^^^ correct. but if you were to....port the intake manifold then u could run the bigger NA or 960 TB and then you might need the plate....which is what im assuming he did...

Hi, I'm Alex from Spain, I'm owner of a 1996's 850 2.5 non turbo 10 valve manual transmission non diesel. My car have a 55mm throttleplate with a plastic piece. Can I modify this and put a 65mm throttle body with a 960 plate?. The gas compsumtion will increase, Will I notice something? Bye guys.

Hi,
Id like to add something for the record
I have successfully modified my intake so that it now sucks cold air, that is, following the instructions in one of these threads in the website. I have noted a night vs day change in acceleration and resposiveness, but there is a downside, for these carsthere is a toll on how far you can push it. This means no matter what you really do, the tranny can only do so much after the mod and it really depends on the age of your car on wether it will truly work or not.
I have noted my gas millegae suffered noticebly from my volvo's norm, that is from about 24 to 20 or even less MPG.
So I would wonder... why mod the car so much if the MPGs go really low and the acceleration can only be so smooth?
I understand it is a thrill to drive a speed demon, but this is no rocket Sir
Somethimes I wonder whether it is only my car, or is it that you just enjoy the ride that much and you pput up with these changes.
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I have had little luck with my old school volvo, so I will keep my useless plastic on and only hope I can grind an angle onto it but not fully replace it, after all my tranny is going out and the whole suspension is dead anyways
Of course that is just a though

Hey guys - I changed out my 850 (non-turbo) throttle plate with a 960 throttle plate.

Fits perfectly, looks great, feel great on the throttle response.

Now for my question:

When I changed the plate out and put it all back together I got a couple interesting symptoms...

1. The car's idle, when you start it up (in Park) revs up to 1000RPM and then holds there. When I put it in my drive, it drops to 600. It idles at around 600 when i'm in drive and waiting at a light. But sometimes, and it's very odd that it does this... when I start it up, sometimes it idles at 600 right away (in Park) rather than jumping up to 1000.

2. My CEL came on 2 days after the throttle-plate change. It's a P0400 code. EGR Valve. I've read on here that the EGR should be cleaned at regular intervals (which I didn't know and have never done). I'm going to try and clean it and see if the intake port is clogged or something.

Overall, it's great. I love this plate mod. It's definitely a performance swap... I get better throttle response at low speeds, but also, when i'm cruising at 65 and want to jump up to 75... it performs well, very responsive, without dropping down a gear.

Anyone else have any problems when they changed the 850 plate for the 960 plate?

Hi Guys from Spain:
I have all the elements for the mod, have You notice poor mpg?. If the mpg decrease the mod is not interesting for me. Here de price of a liter o fuel is 1'22€ and my 850 2.5 10v non turbo consumes 12l/100km in urban mode.

Bye.

Actually... my MPG has improved slightly overall... but on the interstate (higher speeds) I can get 38mpg (if I keep it at 60).

Yank your (negative) battery cable, step on the brake pedal, and go reconnect it. This will reset the computer; it's probably just confused at the moment. Did you seal up the throttle body with a new gasket/reconnect the hoses tight?

P.S. Make sure you have your radio code first.

There's more air entering the engine at lower speed, thus more power. The MPG decrease is probably from putting your foot down more because it's fun ;)

Well, a couple years ago I took the throttle body off to clean it. I replaced the gasket then... so this time it looked good, I wiped it clean and put it back in. I probably should just order another one. I did check the vacuum lines. They are on tight... but they are old. I was planning on getting some vacuum hosing and some new elbows and just change them anyway.

I did disconnect the battery.... but I didn't hit the brake pedal. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions.
