My 93 850 glt with electronic a/c will not blow as fast as it once did. I recently had the a/c recharged because the compressor was cycling. I added R-134-A, and now compressor operates properly and is very cold. Problem is now I have noticed that the fan will not blow very fast. When the interior of the car is hot, cold air will come out of the vents at medium speed at best. Even if I manually slide the fan speed selector over to the highest speed, medium is all I get. It used to be that if I did this, or turned on the defroster, it would seem 'Jet powered', but not now. I think it has been a gradual failure, so slow in fact that it went unnoticed until now. I also have noticed in the past, noise that would increase as the fan speed increased. Especially on high.

Question: I want to check the A/C codes, and find a key for those codes. What is the procedure for pulling the a/c codes. I am familiar with pulling codes for fuel injection and ignition, so I am not totally clueless.

Next, depending on what the codes reveal, I need to determine if the fan, the fan speed control switch or the fan speed resistor (if it has a set), are bad. Does anybody have a diagnosis procedure to follow?

Next, If it is the fan, is there a step by step pictoral that can be followed to replace the fan? I suspect the fan.

Thanks in advance.

So its the middle of summer and I can't go another second without recharging my A/C. I looked under the hood and frankly am totally intimidated by what I see. Can anyone give me clear directions to find the port that I hook this canister thing up to? I drive a '96 850 sedan.

I got the Interdynamics Arctic Freeze R-134a refrigerant+ from PepBoys

I'm thinking I can handle it once I find the port, but I have never done any thing on this car by myself except check the oil (its still dark and icky! jk)

Any tips on what NOT to do would also be appreciated!

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/ac_page.php <- This should answer your question.

First read the instructions that came with the kit, and I believe you hook it up to the LOW side of the AC. It should be connector called 70NM or something.

mine's good for about 5-7 minutes, cycles off for about 2-3 minutes, then back on again. the longer i drive, the longer the intervals between cycles, and the shorter the cycles become.

i've added almost an entire 19 oz. can of R134a, and the pressure gauge reads around 60psi when i'm trying to fill it, drops to around 35-40 psi when i just hook it up and don't try to fill it.

should i try to add more? pressure has been around 35-40psi since the first time i filled it. 100+ H.I. days are killing me, but only for a few minutes at a time... :(

Wondering if anyone can help diagnose a problem I'm having with my '95 850. It blows hot air sometimes when the a/c is on. If I turn off the a/c and wait a few minutes, it will turn cold again. Refrigerant amount & pressure is ok... could this be a problem with the compressor or condensor? Anyone know how to diagnose?

I am having the same problem as the two above. Basically put.... It seems in the morning the AC never shuts off. IT is cold enough to give you a headache. When I am driving home I notice it shuts off frequently at the same time in the same place every day. I can tell when it is happening because I can smell that OZONE smell. Then the temp starts to climb. I think it has to do with me putting a load (driving uphill) on the engine or something. All I know is that it is becoming intollerable.

Could it be overheating and shutting off temporarily?

It only does it on the warm days when it is over 85 degrees.

Besides the problem outlined above, I also noticed that the AC & Recycle lights will blink for about 20 - 30 seconds when I start the car... any ideas?
