I’m having an intermittent problem with my key remote. At times I just can’t unlock, lock my car remotely, none of the remote functions will work using the key fob. No problems locking or unlocking the car using the key in the door lock. It’s not the key fob itself the problem is on the car side. I have two key fobs and both stop and start working at the same time and they both have new batteries in them.
I had this problem about a year ago and then the problem seem to have corrected itself but now it’s back. Took the car to the Volvo dealer and they looked at it for about two hours but they couldn’t trace the problem to the source and there were no codes. They suspect the UEM or CEM but without knowing the root cause of the problem it would have an expensive trial and error exercise in part replacement, which I didn’t pursue. I know intermittent problems are difficult to track down but the problem was occurring at the dealership and it’s frustrating they can’t even determine which module is causing the problem, both are very expensive to replace.
Anybody have a similar problem and is so what was the fix? Thanks

Hey, I am just wondering if you still have this problem. I do have this problem (fab has new batteries in it too), the only difference is that my door lock doesn't work... So I can't lock/unlock my car. Did you ever figure out what was wrong? I would love for you to write in and say if/what you figured out.
I too have this problem. I did find a little information on this problem, but not enough to fix it.

Does anyone know where/what this unit is?

Can't help you with the intermittant remote, but to the poster who's lock does not unlock, you need a new (or used) lock/actuator
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

I tried resetting the UEM as described in previous post and seems to have worked. I will re-post if anything changes. Thanks for the help !

2011 Xc60 Keyleess entry on Drivers side does not unlock in cold weather. Fob does, but have to dig it out of pocket. Read on Swedespeed some time ago about a bad wire in door. Service dept. has no knowledge of recall for problem. Dealer replaced remote twice, said handle replacement was next.

THANK YOU jda2000!
My 2009 XC90 was misbehaving and the FOB would only unlock the car. None of the other buttons worked. Had to lock it every time with the key, and many times the thing just randomly unlocked itself when I was near the car (and definitely not pressing the unlock button). I took it apart, cleaned it, changed the battery, and same old thing.
I did the UEM reset above and immediately every button worked as it should!
THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
