O'Reilly / Checker / Shucks / Kragen all owned by O'Reilly now, also loan an OBD II for 96 and newer that also does OBD I for the major Mfgs on 95 and older. It's free but the scanners they loan do not do live data. In most cases it doesn't matter as most users wouldn't know what to look for or what they are looking at. They loan an Equus - OBD II Code Reader that does a pretty good job and doesn't take much ability to hook up or read. An OBD II only movel sells for around 130.00 I have one and I like it but there are plenty of different options out there. On my 95 850 wagon I found the diagnostic connector under the hood and found I can read not only the OBD II codes for my car but read the Heater/AC codes and read and RESET the SRS light. Replaced the ignition switch and test drove with the air bag disconnected! Needed to drive it to find out where to remount (center) the steering wheel on it's shaft after doing the switch. Thought the system was smart enough to reset itself once I plugged the air bag back in. NOPE .... the code remains and the system is deactivated until a repair is completed if necessary and the system physically reset. Been staring at that damn light for weeks thinking I either had to break down and buy yet another specialty tool to read/reset the SRS (airbag) light or go to the dealer and pay to have it done. I love these groups as that's how I found out about the failing ignition switch causing intermittent failure lights, intermittent cruise operation and occasional need to manually override the brake/shift interlock which I was about to dive into and replace.
