Air Conditioning Problem

AIRCONDITIONING PROBLEM

I have a VOLVO S.60 2.4 YEAR 2002.

When the outside temperature is below roughly 24C/75F the unit works fine.

Over this temperature the A/C comes on, cools for around 5 minutes and then stops, delivering air with temp being the same as outside.

Dealer refilled, checked for leaks, can't fins anything else, suspects compressor but cannot explain the temperature dependency!

What clould be the problem????

Thanks,

Dick

Great! That might well solve the problem. As I am not a car DIY person now I have to try to convince my dealer, but at least I now know what I am talking about! Thanks!

I was having similar problem with my 2001 S60 where the a/c is only on for few minutes during hot days. However, my diagnostic pointed me to the electric (engine) cooling fan problem. The cooling fan should be on during a hot day with the a/c on. If the cooling fan is not on, the a/c line get over pressure due to the high heat which causes the compressor to stop. You might want to check that also.

Hello - I have a 2003 S60 2.5 AWD with a similar air conditioning problem. It is fine around town or on trips under 30 minutes, but beyond this the air slowly gets warm and the air vents seems to close. The fan is still going full speed (can hear it) but very little air is coming out. If you stop for 15 or more minutes then it seems to be fine again, unless you go on another 30 minute plus drive. I took it to the local Volvo dealer - they recharged the system (was down 37 units of approx 220 units and said there were no leaks), but this really made no difference. Any ideas?
