Dim headlights on 1999 S70

The headlights on my 1999 S70 are incredibly dim. At night or before daylight, it's almost as if I don't have them on if I'm using my low beams. I've gotten to the point that I just keep my high beams on all the time, and even the high beams are so dim that it doesn't seem to create any problems with oncoming cars. I don't get the impression they are misaligned - I don't see light pointing up in trees or shining brightly on the road. They simply don't seem to put out much light. I replaced the low-beam bulbs with Silver Star Ultras but it didn't seem to make much difference at all.

The lenses don't appear to be cloudy but the reflective material inside the units definitely appears dull, with patches of black showing. I'm not sure if I need to replace the whole headlight assemblies or if there are other options I need to consider. Thanks in advance for your help and insight.

You have options (the OEM low beams just suck). You can go the HID route or you can buy the Euro Projectors. Both are an upgrade but there is a wallet weigh-in involved with both options.

You can also get the so called HID bulbs... i have a set in my car and there alot brighter than the stock and alot cheaper than going the full HID kit.

Just a follow up on my post. I guess I could have gone the HID route but instead, I bought two new headlight assemblies from FCPGroton - about $120 apiece. I had no trouble removing the old assemblies and replacing them with the new ones. It made all the difference in the world - I can now see at night again and not have to use my high beams all the time!
