Oh man my climate control is all screwed...

Post by tj850GLT »

Well, I got my car a couple months ago (96 850 GLT) and have been having little problems since...

The AC / REC lights were blinking when I got it, and all that worked was the defroster. So I bring it back to the dealer and the have it "fixed". Well guess what, the flashing lights are back and only the defroster works now. Plus the AC doesn't come out cold all the time anymore (clicks on and off a lot). Today it rained, and the left side came out hot and defogged that side, the right side didn't defog. I had both sides set at the same temp, but they came out VERY different temps. When the dealer "fixed" it, they swapped out the climate control box and said that was it. I think there is some vaccuum leak problems, but I have no idea where to look. And if there is a way to get the code from the AC, or will I have to pay the dealer? Please help!!! It's driving me NUTSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Well I talked to someone, and he said that there is no vaccuum lines on this car, its all electronic. So maybe it's the switches? I dunno, but it's driving me nuts.

Ok, the switch to change where the air comes out seems to do nothing, but when I put it to defrost, I can hear the AC click on. I wanna get this fixed before it starts getting cold. Will Volvo charge to do a diagnostic on the AC? All they have to do is plug it in right???

Damn I wish I had a 95 instead of 96, then I could do the self test, Why did they have to change that!?!?!?

In most cars, the AC kicks on when you turn it to defrost. The AC air is dry and will quickly defrost the windshield, so that sounds like it is working correctly. The other problems maybe in the vent control motors that adjust based on your temperature and air direction settings. I don't know too much about the Volvo systems to accurately diagnose however.

I know the AC is supposed to turn on when defrost. I'm just trying to figure out if I need a new Climate Control module (the box with the dials, don't know what exactly it is called) or if it is something else. I wish I could self diagnose the AC...
