Yesterday I removed the old belt, installed a new water pump, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley. I also loosened up the plastic shield around the crank pulley so I could slip the old belt off, and get a new one on without removing the harmonic ballancer.
When i lined the timing marks up on the cams and crank I noticed the exhaust cam is advanced one tooth!!!!
Is there a trick to getting the new belt on? I am following the vadis instructions on installing the belt, but once I have it over the water pump there isn't enough slack to pull it over the tensioner. The new belt has the same volvo part number that the one I took off had, so i know that it should fit in theory. Ive changed motors and transmissions before but this is my first timing belt so im just taking it slowly, however im not sure what im doing wrong or missing at this point.
Maybe I need to remove the harmonic balancer so I can have a little better access to the tensioner? If thats the case i wish I would have taken it off before removing the old belt.
Any info or advice is hugely appreciated, im at work now but will be back at the car tomorrow and need to get the old wagon rolling again.
thanks Curtis
