Regarding the thermostat issue, if your needle moves down while running the heat (from the middle 3 o'clock tick mark to the one right below it) when the heater is turned on is that an indicator of a bad thermostat? I've noticed my heater is acting a tad funny. It'll run fine some of the time and sometimes it's not very effective and won't blow any heat at all. A/C runs fine though.

Yeah, you've got a bad thermostat. Change the ECT sensor while you're in there as well, since it usually goes out in short order with a bad thermostat.Regarding the thermostat issue, if your needle moves down while running the heat (from the middle 3 o'clock tick mark to the one right below it) when the heater is turned on is that an indicator of a bad thermostat? Here's a picture of the tubes (those two brown ones); you'll see them at the back of the engine by the turbo intake pipe.
BTW, if your pipe looks that messy, you're in for a PCV cleaning too

I've been told by the Dealer that I'm in need of a Heater-core, and various other items that are connected to such. Costly...anyone out there ever re-build an heater core or do we just Toss and Replace? Need to be smart with the $'s.
Any input always welcome. I'm confident I can do the work myself..."with a little help from my friends."

It's like a mini-radiator - if it starts leaking, just toss it and replace it. FCP Groton has the best price on one that I have seen, as I too am in the market for one (mine was just O-rings, but I did my shopping around first - they ALL will go at some point).
Here's how to go about it: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... e-install/
BTW, you'll need to get the O-rings from your dealer. The green FCP ones are junk and leak.

Will Do! Thanks for the up-date. I checked the pricing and also found Groton to be the most economical. I'll be ordering this week...and will keep you all up to date on the progress/process. Maybe I could take some photos of the process.
