Squeaking at timing belt area...what could this be?

Post by rommel0915 »

It just started this morning. It is very high pitched and sounds like its coming from the belt area. I'm worried that the timing belt (replaced 15k miles ago)might break while driving. Hopefully this is nothing expensive. :(

Take your accessory belt off and see if the noise goes away. If not, did you replace the idler and tensioner pulleys? You may have a failing bearing on one of those if the noise persists if something on the accessory belt (tensioner, idler, or one of the pumps) isn't the problem.

+1

Your instrument cluster will light up like a Christmas tree when you take off the serpentine belt but it will cause no harm.

Take the timing belt cover off and have a look and listen.
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

i had very distinct whistle coming from right above my altinator. Turned out the previous owner tried to replace a vacuum line from the small pcv to the left side the intake with a whimpy line so every time my engine would warm up i would have this annoying sound, after finally looking under the main coolant tube, there it was being sucked so hard it was collapsing on itself and caused that noise...dunno if thats ur problem but i though i would share.
