I didn't think this car had an OBD II port on it. I found something on the driver side next to the fender. It has 6 plugs that are round and has the letter A on it. Does the 1992 960 have a ODB II port on it?

Use this link to obtain the PDF: http://precisioncopiers.com.au/Volvo/90 ... DCodes.pdf

This should help you get the codes

Plug choice is very critical for this series of engine. If you can go with OEM you'd be better off.

Thank you Mike! It came back with 2-3-2 error code which according to the link is a 02 sensor. Questions are assuming there is more then 1 02 Sensor: #1 Which O2 sensor is it, and where on the car is it? I saw a O2 sensor under the car near the cat converter, is that the only one on the car?

There's two O2 sensors. The codes can't be exact enough to tell you if your fuel pump is leaning the fuel to your motor due to wear or a blocked filter.

I would look into fuel pump so we are still steering back to pump & filter.

Didn't get a response from you of trying to spray cold water on the fuel pump when the problem appears.

The cold water on the fuel pump & fuel filter did not change any physical movement of the engine or any sound to the performance of the engine. It still sounds good in the engine compartment.

Where is the second O2 sensor? I am wondering if maybe they bumped it or something while they were putting the mounts on. I had no check engine light before the mounts were put in. I know one is right before the cat converter, but is there another that may be closer to the area they were working.

The '92 to '94 models only had one O2 sensor. The '95 to '97 models had 2.

Bill: Think it's the sensor or should I look at the fuel filter & fuel pump?

The O2 sensor itself may not be faulty. It's job is to analyse the exhaust and send the info to the control unit, which then regulates the amount of fuel going through the system.

Code 2-3-2 relates to the long term fuel trim. but is split into lower limit and upper limit. The attached is from VADIS and details the possible things that could set that code. There is no mention of the O2 sensor, although it could come under faulty sensor signals.

Unfortunately the code doesn't specify whether it is lower or upper limit so you will have to work through the list. However, I would certainly be looking at the fuel filter unless you know that it has been changed recently. The service interval for the filter is every 60,000 miles on '92 - '94 models.

I just found the paperwork from my dad (previous owner) who kept very good care of the car and handed over all documentation and repair information he had on the car. The fuel filter was replaced at 157k, there is 164k on the car right now. Whats next on the list to check? ;)

Also, I have the engine mounts installed, but I feel a LOT more engine vibration and hear a lot more engine noise then I did with the old mounts. The people I purchased the mounts from said this is to be expected with new mounts and it will become more quiet once the mounts are broken in. Is this true? I have put maybe 50 miles on the car since the mounts were put in.
