S70 AIR CONDITIONING---VAPORIZER PROBLEM
S70 AIR CONDITIONING---VAPORIZER PROBLEM
My trusted mechanic tells me that replacing the vaporizer on my S70 2000 volvo requires taking out the entire dasboard---thus a $1000 repair bill. My AC stopping working late in summer, so I decided to have checked out. Are there other options? Any suggestions?

I think you mechanic means the evaporator core is leaking. He probably diagnosed it by using a coolant sniffer to detect R-134 coming out the vents.
If that is the problem the labor should run about $500, and the evaporator about $300, plus about $12 for coolant.
You might want to shop around for a lower price.
There may be some people who have done this repair themselves, but not any I know of.
